RUMA Certified Public Accountants is a professional service firm providing solutions to clients in their distinct sectors in Rwanda and the region. RUMA CPA was registered in Rwanda on 31 October 1996 and has grown rapidly and independently to become a leading indigenous consultancy and accounting firm in Rwanda.
During the 1990s, as the accounting profession was taking shape and the economy was recovering, professional regulation and economic recovery created demand for solutions to complex business challenges. In August 1993, CPA Peter Rutaremara — a Rwandan living in Kampala, Uganda — and CPA Mathias Tumwesigye, a Ugandan national, established an accounting firm under the name RUMA Certified Public Accountants. The acronym "RUMA" stands for the founders' initials: RU (Rutaremara) and MA (Mathias).
After the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, CPA Peter Rutaremara returned to his home country and registered RUMA CPA under Rwandan jurisdiction. Though independent firms, RUMA CPA in Rwanda and RUMA & Associates in Uganda have maintained their relationship — sharing knowledge and staff as the need arises.
Our founding Partner, the late CPA Peter Rutaremara, was elected the first President of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) on 7 February 2009 — spearheading the practice and growing the profession in Rwanda.
RUMA CPA has since expanded with offices in Burundi and Kenya and is an affiliate member of Kreston Global, which ranks among the top twenty largest global networks of independent accounting firms. This affiliation has earned RUMA CPA a strong reputation for quality service delivery, leveraging the highest level of expertise and a globally coordinated quality monitoring and review programme.
We keep up with our clients' expectations by solving their problems in the most confidential, fast and cost-friendly manner — with the help of our partners and a staff complement of auditors, consultants, trainers and financial reporting experts. RUMA CPA has acquired a respectable niche across business entities, public and governmental entities, local and multinational organizations, and not-for-profit organizations.
